The America's Birthplace Story - walking tour

Step out to Philadelphia’s modern day Market Street and learn how it got its name from the early market stalls that bustled with life in the 1700s as you stroll towards Independence National Historical Park. Visit the famous sites related to the creation of the country and fight for independence.

Hear stories of the people, places and things that made early Philadelphia the seat of government for the young nation, including voices of women, African American and LGBTQ+ figures from history, not often told.

Sites include*: Liberty Bell Center, Independence Hall, Congress Hall, Carpenter’s Hall (first Continental Congress), Old City Hall (Supreme Court) site of Benjamin Franklin’s home, Betsy Ross House, Franklin’s grave, Elfreth’s Alley and Christ Church, known as “the Nation’s Church.”

NOTE *Certain conditions dictate the number of sites seen such as weather, security clearance lines and speed at which the group moves from one point to another.  This tour requires walking for periods of time. Your guide will incorporate a rest stop during this tour.  LIMITED REST ROOM FACILITIES DURING THIS TOUR

The tour will depart from outside the Philadelphia Visitor Center -- corner of 6th & Market Streets -- OUTSIDE to the front/right side of the entrance doors.  Guests will be responsible for arriving at the departure site on their own -- approx. 9-12 minute walk from the Downtown Marriott at 12th St. 

Check-in with your guide will begin at 1:30P
The tour will depart at 2:00P promptly
